PREPARING FOR YOUR INITIAL ESTATE PLANNING MEETING
We will request any information we need from you during your initial appointment. Therefore, we do not require that you bring any documentation with you to your initial appointment. You may, however, be considering what your goals are for your estate plan. For example, your goal may be to provide for the raising of minor children, including naming the individuals(s) responsible for raising minor children and guidelines for distribution of money to children. Or, your goal may be to provide for charitable planning, money for grandchildren’s education, etc. You may also consider, prior to your appointment, who you would want to make health care and financial decisions for you in the event you are unable to make decisions for yourself. Obviously, if you have any questions prior to your appointment, please do not hesitate to contact any of our staff and we will be happy to assist you.
AFTER YOU EXECUTE YOUR ESTATE PLAN
We will provide you with original and copy(ies) of your estate planning documents and will retain a copy. If you request, we will also provide you with a copy of your estate planning documents on CD ROM.
We will also provide you with cards that you can give to the people named in your documents telling them where your original documents are located. This is in lieu of providing copies of your estate plan to the people named in your documents, which we generally discourage.
FOLLOW UP FOR YOUR ESTATE PLAN
Although our engagement is solely to prepare your estate plan, we typically mail review cards every two (2) to three (3) years. There is no charge for an estate plan review. If you would like to review your plan, contact our office and schedule an appointment.
